By now, anyone who reads the news or has an internet connection is aware that we have entered a new age of business and entrepreneurship. Startups are popping up everywhere from your new favorite photo or music sharing service to a company that saves people money when they dine out at higher-end restaurants. When it comes to the world of startups, it is no surprise that Silicon Valley leads the way but many other places in the world, including Vancouver, are catching up!
One of the events that I am particularly excited about is Startup Weekend.
Taken from the events website, Startup Weekend is described as:
54-hour events where developers, designers, marketers, product managers and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups!
The video above is a great overview of what the event is all about and showcases some of the companies that have come out of it. Startups like vizualize.me (a service for instantly making a visual résumé from your LinkedIn account) which I think is awesome!
They have events in cities all around the world, including in Vancouver. This year, the Startup Weekend Vancouver is on May 31-June 2 and I am happy to say I will be participating. I don’t have a startup idea but am looking forward to hearing what other ideas are presented and working with a team to help make one of them a reality.
If you would like to attend, I highly recommend registering ASAP as tickets tend to sell out quickly. The event is also looking for volunteers and sponsors if you or anyone you know is looking to help out in the startup community.
If anyone else is planning to attend, shoot me a message. I would love to meet some of the other local entrepreneurs out here in Vancouver.
